People get nervous about the word "consultation." We hear it in their voice on the phone. Do I need an appointment? Is there a fee? What should I bring?
Here's the whole answer: you walk in. That's it. That's the process.
If you've been searching for an herbalist near Fort Lauderdale and picturing something formal, let us walk you through what actually happens at our Lauderdale Lakes flagship, because it's a lot more like talking to a knowledgeable neighbor than sitting in a waiting room.
Step one: you walk in and say what's on your mind
No forms. No clipboard. You come in, someone greets you, and you tell us what you're working toward. Maybe you want to start a morning tea routine. Maybe your mother used to make a bush tea you've been trying to find for twenty years. Maybe you just heard about sea moss from a coworker and want to know what the fuss is about.
You don't need the right vocabulary. "My grandmother used to boil something bitter" is a perfectly good starting point. We've solved that mystery more times than we can count. (It's usually cerasee.)
Step two: we walk the shelves together
This is the part people don't expect. We don't stand behind a counter and hand you a box. Someone from our staff literally walks the floor with you.
We'll pull herbs off the raw herbs wall so you can see and smell them. We'll tell you how each one has been traditionally used in Caribbean households, how folks typically prepare it, how long to steep it, what it tastes like, and whether you'll want to add lime. The honest stuff. Some of these herbs are bitter and we will tell you exactly how bitter.
What we won't do is make medical claims or play doctor, because we're not doctors and these herbs aren't medicine. We share tradition and preparation, the knowledge that's been passed down through our families since long before we opened this shop in 2004. What you do with your health is between you and your doctor.
Step three: you leave with what fits, not what's expensive
Sometimes people walk out with one $6 bag of dried herb and instructions for brewing it. That's a successful consultation as far as we're concerned. There's no minimum, no upsell, no pressure. The regulars we've kept for twenty years didn't stay because we pushed product on them.
If you want to do homework first, our herbal guide covers the basics of the herbs we stock, and our raw herbs and superfoods collection shows most of what's on the wall. But honestly? Come in cold. The conversation is better than the reading.
A few quick answers
Is there a charge? No. It's part of shopping here.
How long does it take? As long as you want. Five minutes or forty-five. Saturday mornings get busy, so come on a weekday if you want more one-on-one time.
Which location? Walk-in consultations happen at the flagship: 4273 N State Rd 7, Lauderdale Lakes. That's where the full raw herbs wall and the juice bar are. Our North Lauderdale store at 8026 W McNab Rd is great for grabbing what you already know you want.
We're here Monday through Saturday 9am to 7pm and Sunday 11am to 5pm. Directions to both stores are on the store locator. Come as you are, questions and all.
